“My Other Mother” is an inspiring film about a woman’s quest to meet her real mother who had released her for adoption. Candy (short for Candice), played by Lynn Whitfield, is a morning TV host who is very demanding of those around her to the point of being annoying.
The film stars Hazel Doupe as Char, a young woman at odds with her grandmother Rita (Ingrid Craigie) after her mother Angela (Carolyn Bracken) briefly goes missing, only to return soon afterward with a radically changed personality.
YOU ARE NOT MY MOTHER is a promising feature directorial debut for Kate Dolan. She exhibits full control over her dreadful atmosphere & slow-burn storytelling, steadily building in terror until the climatic finale.
