My Brilliant Friend (Italian: L'amica geniale) is an Italian and Neapolitan language drama television series created by Saverio Costanzo for HBO, RAI and TIMvision. Named after the first of four novels in Elena Ferrante's Neapolitan series, it is set to adapt the entire literary work over four seasons of eight episodes. On HBO, the first three seasons are available to binge on.
We follow the life of Elena Greco, also called Lenuccia or Lenù. She is the oldest Greco sibling and is a bright but quiet girl. This indescribable bond is formed between Elena and Lila (Raffaella Cerullo). Elena takes us with her in this sixty-year friendship between brilliant Elena and the rebellious Lila in the setting of Naples.
When the most important friend in her life seems to have disappeared without a trace, Elena Greco, a now-elderly woman immersed in a house full of books, turns on her computer and starts writing the story of their friendship. Based on the bestselling series by Elena Ferrante.
