Dec 29, 2019 · If you're looking for something to watch as we say goodbye to 2019, here are the best Netflix original movies of the year. The streaming service continues to heavily invest in original TV shows and films, and this year released numerous awards season contenders.
List of Netflix original films (2019) Netflix is an American global on-demand Internet streaming media provider, that has distributed a number of original programs, including original series, specials, miniseries, documentaries and films. Netflix's original films also include content that was first screened on cinematic release in other ...

If Goodfellas made gangsters cool, The Irishman makes them sad. It’s quieter, almost placid compared to Goodfellas’ manic brashness. In some ways, watching this film is like witnessing Martin Scorsese come of age and mature.
- Dolemite Is My Name. I think that film-saturated folks who see every new release, religiously check sites like this one, and are eager to debate all things movies can sometimes feel cynical about the inherently childlike joy that comes from creation and sharing.
- Velvet Buzzsaw. In Velvet Buzzsaw, writer/director Dan Gilroy offers up a sharp indictment of the Los Angeles art world - following a hyper-competitive group of critics and dealers who make their living off of art without actually creating any themselves.
- Marriage Story. What is there to say about Noah Baumbach's achingly tender and beautifully-wrought 2019 film (and awards season frontrunner) Marriage Story which hasn't already been said?
- Tell Me Who I Am. Tell Me Who I Am isn’t the first film (or the first story) to grapple with the effects that a lie can have on someone. Those lies can be weaponized to thwart a superhero, or they can be used to justify horrific actions sanctioned by the government.
- High Flying Bird. High Flying Bird tells the story of a sports agent caught in the crosshairs of an NBA lockout who tries to end it on his own. A strong script from Moonlight screenwriter Tarell Alvin McCraney and a leading performance from André Holland make a potentially insider story compelling, and the film takes on the NBA’s long history of exploiting Black athletes in the process.
- The Irishman. In The Irishman, an elderly Frank Sheeran (Robert De Niro) reflects on his relationship with Jimmy Hoffa (Al Pacino), the union leader who famously went missing (and who Sheeran admitted to murdering late in life).
- After Maria. After Maria follows three women living out of a New York hotel. Forced to flee their homes in Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria, the women are about to be displaced once again, this time by FEMA.

- Marriage Story. "Eventually, it’ll be the two of you having to figure this out." Writer/director Noah Baumbach's Divorce Film is many things: a strong drama about family; a sad tale of love lost; maybe even a tentatively hopeful piece about next chapters.
- Dolemite Is My Name. "Dolemite is my name, and fuckin' up motherfuckers is my game!" Chronicling the true story of late comedian Rudy Ray Moore — also known as Dolemite — this Eddie Murphy vehicle is worth every minute of viewing.
- The Irishman. "Sooner or later, everybody put here has a date when he's going to go. That's just the way it is." The Irishman tackles the real-life story of the mafia activity surrounding International Brotherhood of Teamsters union president Jimmy Hoffa, specifically looking at the life of Frank “The Irishman” Sheeran in the 1950s, ‘60s, and ‘70s.
- Atlantics. "We'll burn down your tower." Winner of the Cannes Grand Prix and Senegal’s official Academy Award entry, Mati Diop’s Atlantics offers an intoxicating look at love, loss, injustice, and fear.
Aug 24, 2020 · Review: Mr. Pig Written and directed by Diego Luna and co-written by Augusto Mendoza , an ageing California pig farmer ( Danny Glover ) whose property is on the brink of foreclosure makes a last-ditch trip across the border to sell his prized hog.
