  5. Joseph Mortimer Granville (4 May 1833, Devonport – 23 November 1900, London) was an English physician, author and inventor known for having first patented the electromechanical vibrator for relief of muscle aches, exclusively for male patients.

  6. The Granville was a hotel between 1869 and 1946 before being sold by proprietors Spiers & Pond. The building is now Granville House, a private residence containing 48 self-contained flats that are managed by Cockett Henderson. Granville House was Grade II listed on 16 October 1973.
