Most of Monroe sucks, but you can find good stuff if you're looking for it as we come back from Covid (because Monroe was the actual worst during Covid). There are monthly downtown Gallery crawls. Events at the Masur Museum and Biedenharn Gardens. Good restaurants like Parish and the Warehouse.
That’s literally the only reason to live in Monroe. I know someone who lives in a studio apartment in Kenner paying $625 a month. I know another person living in the Monroe area who is renting a house with two or three bedrooms for around $625. Monroe fuckin sucks.
The homicide rate in 2020 was over six times the national average. Even around ULM’s campus isn’t always very safe at night. North Monroe is a nice area, and where there’s less crime and nicer neighborhoods. A lot of locals there with generational wealth, not that they’re billionaires by any means.
