Mitchell Kaplan. Mitchell is a co-founder of Miami Book Fair International and serves as the Chairperson of its Board of Directors. He also serves on the steering committee of the Florida Center for the Literary Arts, Miami-Dade College's literary center.
Mitchell James Kaplan is an American author. He has published three fiction novels: By Fire, By Water , Into the Unbounded Night , and Rhapsody. By Fire, By Water won the 2011 Independent Publishers Award Gold Medal for Historical Fiction.
- What’s the secret to Books & Books’ success? The only way one can really be successful in a small business like ours is to maintain a kind of passion and be able to hire passionate booksellers, and I think we’ve been able to do that.
- Are you worried about the future of reading? It would be foolish not to be worried about the future in general. Reading falls into that because we’re in such a period of change.
- What gives you a hunch a book will make a good movie? You have to ask yourself, is there a pathway to getting this made? Do we know directors, writers, a studio?

Mitchell Kaplan, a native of Miami Beach, opened the first Books & Books in 1982 in Coral Gables, Florida. Now with four South Florida locations, Books & Books hosts over 400 events per year.
