Mianeh is in a valley, approximately 439 kilometres (273 mi) northwest of Tehran and approximately 187 kilometres (116 mi) southeast of East Azerbaijan's largest city and capital, Tabriz. [8] The city was strategically located, during antiquity was a frontier city for a key travel route between Iraq and Azerbaijan. [9][10]
Mianeh lies in the eastern most region of the province between the Bozqoosh and Qaflan Kooh (Ghaflankooh) mountain ranges. Mianeh stands 170 km. southeast of Tabriz. It has a warm Mediterranean climate with a maximum annual temperature of 19° C on an average.
