This is the largest square in Addis and it's the place where many roads come together. It's near the Red Terror Museum and the new light rail transit system has a stop there. They've recently installed traffic lights for all the chaotic movement of cars, buses, trucks, and taxis, and that has brought a bit of order to the traffic, but not much.

Of itself Meskel Square isn't much but there are three things worth seeing there. On the corner of Menelik II Ave is La Patisserie coffee shop with excellent macchiatos and delicious key lime pie for when you need to sit and watch the world go by. On the south side is the Addis Ababa museum housed in a beautiful old building.
