Many apps are free to download but have a paid subscription and a limited free version, which is more like a trial version. On the other hand, the free version of the Memrise is not too limited: you get full access to all the courses, just not all the activities. You can only do the first few exercises in a course and need to pay to go on.
Memrise used to be amazing, just indispensable in my language learning journey- so much so I happily paid to be able to access community courses and support the app grow. Unfortunately in the last couple of years the company started systematically dismantling everything that made Memrise stand out and shine in the midst of a plethora of generic language learning apps.

Oct 17, 2021 · Memrise has a free version and a paid subscription plan called “Pro.” The free version lets you access the review, listening and conversation features and various lessons—called “scenarios”—in your courses. But you don’t have access to all the lessons, “difficult words” feature, unlimited videos, etc.
Memrise is one of my main study resources (I make my own decks) but it more than fulfills my needs, I can't imagining ever paying the amount the subsciption costs for it. 3. dbrown1990. • 3 yr. ago. Review still stands at 1 star because this should have been allowed in the first place via an advance notice of the forum shutdown instead of a last minute response.
