Suicide bereavement describes the period of grief, mourning and adjustment after a suicide death, that is experienced by family members, friends and any other contacts of the deceased affected by the loss. 1 It is estimated to affect up to 9% of adolescents 2 and 7% of adults 3 annually.

Sep 26, 2023 · Between October 1, 2022 and March 7, 2023 we interviewed 27 adults (23 women, four men, mean age 33 years) who attempted suicide within the past 12 months. Participants were recruited through social media and in collaboration with several mental health institutions in the Netherlands.

May 20, 2024 · Case example: Dr P was told that a patient she knew well had died in a manner that looked like suicide. Dr P was profoundly shocked, turning white as a sheet and repeatedly muttering ‘I am shocked, I did not expect this to happen, he was the last person I thought would die like this’.
