- Mary, Mother of Jesus.
- Deborah. Appointed to be a judge over Israel, Deborah instructed a warrior named Barak to go into battle. When Barak refused to go without her, the book of Judges quotes Deborah’s reprimand.
- Miriam. The cousin of Moses, she led worship for the people of Israel. Because she spoke against the wife of Moses, however, she was struck with leprosy but was later healed.
- Rahab. Rahab was a prostitute in Jericho. When Joshua sent two spies into the city, she took them in and protected them from the king. The book of Joshua tells the request she makes of them.
- Eve: First Woman Created by God. Eve was the first woman, created by God to be a companion and helper for Adam, the first man. Everything was perfect in the Garden of Eden, but when Eve believed the lies of Satan, she influenced Adam to eat the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, breaking God's command.
- Sarah: Mother of the Jewish Nation. Sarah received an extraordinary honor from God. As Abraham's wife, her offspring became the nation of Israel, which produced Jesus Christ, Savior of the world.
- Rebekah: Intervening Wife of Isaac. Rebekah was barren when she married Isaac and unable to give birth until Isaac prayed for her. When she delivered twins, Rebekah favored Jacob, the younger, over Esau, the first-born.
- Rachel: Wife of Jacob and Mother of Joseph. Rachel became the wife of Jacob, but only after her father Laban had deceived Jacob into marrying Rachel's sister Leah first.
Who was Mary? She was a peasant woman living in first-century Galilee. If it weren’t for her son Jesus, she would have lived and died in obscurity – see The Real Mary of Nazareth. How do we know about her? From the stories of the New Testament – they tell us what she said and did.
- Esther. A woman who embodied courage and faith. A young Jewish girl who became queen of Persia, Esther played a pivotal role in saving her people from extermination.
- Ruth. A model of selflessness and devotion. Ruth was a Moabite woman who decided to stay with her mother-in-law, Naomi, after her husband's death. Despite the cultural and social challenges, Ruth said, “Where you go, I will go; where you lodge, I will lodge; your people shall be my people, and your God my God.”
- Deborah. A prophetess and the only female judge mentioned in the Bible. Her leadership provided peace and prosperity for the Israelites for 40 years. Deborah's story is exceptional among the women in the Bible because she held such a high-ranking position during a time when women's roles were generally confined to domestic spheres.
- Mary. The mother of Jesus. A young woman when the angel Gabriel appeared to her and told her she would conceive a child by the Holy Spirit. Despite the potential social consequences, Mary responded with profound faith, saying, “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.”
