The school was opened in 1936 as Pettits Senior Council school. It was enlarged in 1945-6 and later became Pettits Secondary School.
In 1973 it was amalgamated with Romford County Technical School to form Marshalls Park Comprehensive, with this being known as the Upper School and Pettits Lane being the Lower School.

The new site was officially opened by the Rt Hon. David Blunkett, MP, Secretary of State for Education.

In April 2017, Marshalls Park converted to an Academy and joined the ‘South West Essex Community Education Trust’ (SWECET).
C Block was opened at the beginning of the 2022 academic year allowing Marshalls Park Academy to further flourish in even better surroundings.
