Feb 2, 2014 · Mark IIC is weak, Mark IV is ok but still not as good as the JP2C, extreme comes in a close third. Badlander on crush mode is a close second to the JP2C or the Mark VII modes: IIC, IV and VII. The Mark IIB is also cool. Jun 14, 2023 · The Pentode operation and new, modern components are the likely reasons why the Mark VII feels different than the vintage Simul-Class IIC+ amps. Per Mesa Boogie, there is a "radical sound and feel difference" between Triode and Pentode. Unfortunately for Mark VII users, the C+ mode will not be able to run on Triode like an '80s original.
Mar 18, 2023 · The differences do sound fairly subtle. The Mark VII sounded very tight, I suspect they did the non-GEQ model coupling cap which cuts bass before the GEQ for a faster response, just like on the Mark V. The JP2C definitely had a noticeably larger low end, i was surprised Ola didn’t notice.
