Full Metal Jacket is overrated in my opinion and far from one of Kubrick’s best, as well as being far inferior to other anti war films like Apocalypse Now and The Deer Hunter
Why is Full Metal Jacket considered so good? So I just watched this movie last week and I really don't get why it's so highly praised. The acting is overdone as fuck (looking at you Joker), some of it's just plain bad, and the dialogue is so awkward.
I read the Vietnam memoir 365 Days by the doctor Ronald J Glasser before Kubrick made Full Metal Jacket, and was struck by how much of the movie seemed to be taken directly from that book, though I never found anyplace where Kubrick acknowledged it.

This film's titular platoon is divided into two factions in the midst of the war, as one of their commanding officers (Tom Berenger) unleashes a bloodthirsty rampage to kill all Vietnamese in sight, armed or unarmed. Unlike the other war films on this list, The Deer Hunterdoesn't focus on much violence during the war. Divided into two segments, the first half shows a merry group of friends from a small town, as they hunt, drink, and dance at a wedding. The cheeriness is contrasted starkly with the aftermath of the war as it's shown that all the friends have bee...
