Mansfield / ˈmænsfiːld / is a market town and the administrative centre of the Mansfield District in Nottinghamshire, England. It is the largest town in the wider Mansfield Urban Area [2] and the second largest settlement in Nottinghamshire (following the city of Nottingham). Mansfield is an ancient Nottinghamshire market town, which, by mid-Victorian times, became the county’s second largest township. Archaeological finds indicate that settlements have been here since Neolithic times, while numerous finds, including the remains of a villa, show that there was a Roman settlement in the area.
