May 7, 2021 · Kitt: Well, she didn’t go quietly that’s for sure. She had been sick for a few months. She died from colon cancer. The last few weeks we definitely knew the end was very near.
To "earn her keep," Kitt was forced to pick cotton for them, even though she was less than seven years old. Around this time, Anna Mae fell ill — Kitt later claimed that her mother was probably poisoned — and Kitt was brought to her for a final visit, whereupon she watched her die.

Miss Kitt died on December 25, 2008 and is survived by her daughter, Kitt Shapiro, and four grandchildren. Her outstanding vocals along with her curvaceous frame will forever be cherished for generations to come.
Well-known for her recordings of "Santa Baby" in the 1950s and 1960s. She died on Christmas Day 2008 at her home in Weston, Connecticut.
