- About MCS
Magdalen College School (MCS) is a private day school in the English public school tradition located in Oxford, England, for boys aged seven to eighteen and for girls in the sixth form (i.e. ages sixteen to eighteen). It was founded by William Waynflete in 1480 as part of Magdalen College, Oxford.
Inspiring OWs - Magdalen College School. Over the centuries, MCS has produced many distinguished alumni or Old Waynfletes as we refer to them. Now well into our sixth century, our former pupils include scholars, war heroes, musicians, Olympians, two Nobel Prize laureates, a Hollywood film director, and a saint.
Magdalen College was founded in 1458 by William Waynflete, Bishop of Winchester, and Lord Chancellor. He wanted a college on the grandest scale, and his foundation was the largest in Oxford, with 40 Fellows, 30 scholars (known at Magdalen as Demies), and a large choir for his Chapel.

Magdalen went to two boarding schools, firstly Downe House and then St. Leonard's near St. Andrews. After the war she went to Switzerland to improve her French. Her mother Olga King-Hall, nee Ker (an Northern Irish family) was very internationally minded, having been brought up in Italy and in fact once, as a child, sat on Garibaldi's knee.
