It’s all up to your own personal preference, but according to Patton, “Go with the biggest size that will fit comfortably in your space.” Keep in mind that for fuller trees, the higher you go, the wider the diameter will be. However, if you choose a tree with a slimmer profile, you can opt for more height without worrying about the width.

Many artificial Christmas trees are designed to look like the real thing—if that’s what you’re aiming for. “I am very pro leaning into the fact it’s a fake tree and getting something kitschy—in a color or a metallic or both!” says Patton.
