  3. 2/10. I really don’t get all the accolades this film is receiving. It’s a feminist commentary on victimhood, but it feels like the writer set up a premise and then gave up on the third act. And that social commentary did get too heavy-handed toward the end.

    The oddest thing about Lucky Lady’s infamous production is that it actually looks quite cheap. The Mexico scenes feel like makeshift backlot sets, and too often the outdoors shots seem to be Vaseline-coated. But the transfer here is perfectly good, as is the sound.

    The two aforementioned publicity docs, useful for understanding the contemporary controversy surrounding the film.

    Context is everything: With its mythic production long in the past, Lucky Ladynow stands as a highly enjoyable, underappreciated adventure film. Approach with reasonable expectations, and enjoy.
