Louis-Auguste Blanqui (1805-1881) was one of the most important figures in nineteenth-century French revolutionary politics, and he played a role in all of the great upheavals that punctuated his life – the insurrections of 1830, 1848 and 1870-71.

Mar 16, 2021 · Blanqui was involved in two insurrections in the 1830s and was a constant critic of the regime of Louis Phillippe that had dashed the hopes of a republic. Blanqui was sentenced to repeated terms of imprisonment, and in 1840 was condemned to death, a sentence later commuted to life imprisonment.
