The manga is vastly better than Brotherhood in pretty much every way. If you're trying to choose between those two, start with the manga. Brotherhood assumes the viewer has either read it or also watched the fucking spectacular 2003 anime before starting.
Nov 14, 2012 · Brotherhood. Brotherhood is longer than the original – 64 episodes long, but was more reliable to the manga (2001-10). It was released when the manga was finishing – so in a way ‘Brotherhood’ could be seen as the ‘true’ Fullmetal Alchemist story. For that reason I believe it should be seen first.
Watch both. 2003 is a loose adaptation of the manga that goes in a different direction and tells an original story, but Brotherhood is the more faithful adaptation that sticks a lot closer to the manga.

Mar 4, 2023 · Despite how it may look, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is not a sequel to the original Fullmetal Alchemist anime. Rather, Brotherhood is an entirely separate adaption of the Fullmetal Alchemist manga created by the same animation company five years after the original.
