The Battle of Barrington was an intense and deadly gunfight [1] between federal agents and notorious Great Depression Era outlaw Baby Face Nelson, that took place on November 27, 1934 in Northside Park, in the town of Barrington, outside Chicago, Illinois.
Better known as "Baby Face" Nelson, was an American organized crime figure with a troubled youth marked by multiple stints in reform schools. He eventually found himself in prison for bank robbery but managed to escape.
Nelson was born Lester Joseph Gillis, a son of Flemish Belgian immigrants on December 6, 1908, in Chicago, Illinois. He was arrested on July 4, 1921, at the age of twelve, after he accidentally shot a playmate in the jaw with a pistol that he had found.
