Dec 8, 2020 · Nikolaj Hübbe, artistic director of the Royal Danish Ballet (RDB), decided to make his latest production of August Bournonville’s La Sylphide freely available online because tickets for November’s live performances in the Royal Theatre had been in such demand.
2020. The Australian Ballet presents La Sylphide, in a production by Erik Bruhn after August Bournonville’s nineteenth-century original. A ballet in two acts, La Sylphide tells the tale of the Scottish dreamer James, who is fascinated by a woodland sprite and spurns his fiancée to follow her.
In a Scottish cottage, James awaits the dawning of the day of his wedding to Effie. A winged spirit, the Sylphide, gazes at him lovingly. Effie, her mother and the neighbors arrive to prepare for the wedding. An old witch, Madge, appears and reads their palms.
La Sylphide, One of the oldest romantic ballets, tells the story about A sylph - a mythological spirit who lives in the forest. A young man, infatuated by her charm, follows her to the forest and tries catch her.
