Kaliningrad’s main railway station lies south of the centre, about 2 kilometres from the stadium so less than 30 minutes walking, though international trains are slow and rare. Multiple buses run through central Kaliningrad connecting Victory Square with Konigsberg Cathedral and the railway station, from where the stadium is at walking distance.
The stadium was the westernmost location of the 2018 World Cup. In April 2012, the regional government chose the French architectural bureau Wilmotte & Associes, SA stadium construction project. NPO Mostovik & Mersfor Rus OOO were project partners and the Kaliningrad Region and Russian Federation were the project managers.

The Baltika Stadium is the old stadium of local football club Baltika Kaliningrad. No longer used by the club, it remains standing. The most interesting aspect of the complex is the entrance, where the Soviet arch is. That columns of the arch were repurposed, taken from Konigsberg Castle and placed in this archway.
