Aug 27, 2024 · Speaker wire size quick guide. For most low-power home or car speakers (not subwoofers) 18 gauge (18AWG) is fine. 18AWG wire is good for about 50 watts for 4 ohms and 100 watts for 8 ohm loudspeakers up to 50 feet (15 m) or 100 feet (30 m) respectively. For higher power systems or longer lengths, 16 gauge is a great choice.
Aug 30, 2021 · 119. Aug 30, 2021. #5. suparsonic said: 10 inch has more punch than 12 and probably more suited the guitar frequencies. The only way to get more accurate, would be to measure actual specific drivers between the outer edge of the frame and the center of the surround, then double that number and use it in the calculations.
Jan 6, 2024 · In most cases, however, round speakers produce superior quality sound than oval speakers. As we saw above, for 6×9 oval speakers to outdo round speakers, you must look for a larger cabinet, use a low-impedance amplifier, and so on. Round speakers, on the other hand, are intentionally designed to offer the best quality.
A fairly small powered two-way cabinet (8- to 12-inch woofer plus horn) rated at anything from 100 Watts upwards will do the trick. I've used a Mackie SRM350, which has a 10-inch driver, on many occasions and found it to work well, and for smaller bar gigs I've even used a Mackie SRM150 powered mini-monitor as an extension speaker, with good results.
