K-PAX. (film) K-PAX is a 2001 science fiction mystery film based on Gene Brewer 's 1995 novel of the same name. An American-German co-production, it was directed by Iain Softley, starring Kevin Spacey, Jeff Bridges, Mary McCormack, and Alfre Woodard. The film tells the story of a psychiatric patient who claims to be an alien from the planet K-PAX.

If a visitor from another planet appeared among us in human form and told the truth about his origins, no doubt he would be treated like Prot, the hero of ”K-PAX,” who finds himself locked in a closed ward of the Psychiatric Institute of Manhattan. He might not, however, be as lucky as Prot in his psychiatrist.
In K-PAX, there are two possible explanations: Prot is crazy. He is truly an alien. There are facts that indicate 1, but also 2. Examples: He seems to respond to hypnosis, has a sort of phobia of water, looks just like his friend and doesn't physically leave.
