Jonathan Koch was born in Santa Cruz, California and raised in the Santa Cruz Mountains, where he continues to live and work. He engaged in formal studies at Cabrillo College in Aptos, California from 1989-1992 and at the Rhode Island School of Design from 1992-1994, but in the artist’s words: “nature continues to serve as both my instructor and my greatest inspiration”.

Sep 11, 2011 · When I first wrote about him in early 2010, painter Jonathan Koch had recently started posting his small paintings online, at the time listing his name as J. Bernard Koch. Shortly after that he seemed to take a hiatus of sorts to work on larger projects, but is now back to posting his small works more often, with a new website address (though the original still works, pointing to the new site).
