Stopped at this museum because we had a couple of hours to kill in downtown Newport News, and wish we could have spent more time. Substantial displays devoted to every American conflict from the Revolution to the GWOT, including many of the lesser-known conflicts our military has been involved in.

The Virginia War Museum is located in Huntington Park on Warwick Blvd., Newport News, Virginia. The museum contains exhibits on American military history from 1775 to the present. [1]
The Johnson County War, also known as the War on Powder River and the Wyoming Range War, was a range conflict that took place in Johnson County, Wyoming from 1889 to 1893. [3] The conflict began when cattle companies started ruthlessly persecuting alleged rustlers in the area, many of whom were settlers who competed with them for livestock, land and water rights.
Collections of artifacts, weapons, vehicles, uniforms, and posters trace the development of the United States military from 1775 to the present. Galleries include Women at War, Marches Toward Freedom, and Visions of War, the museum’s extensive propaganda poster collection.
