Born in Warrenton, NC, Chambliss attended Louisiana Tech University and the University of Georgia. He received his law degree from the University of Tennessee College of Law in 1968. He was elected to the U.S. House in 1994. When redistricting threatened his House seat in 2002, he announced a run for the U.S. Senate.
