Oct 18, 2021 · Replacing the late Shemp Howard for a handful of shorts in the late 1950s was comedian Joe Besser. In 1957, Columbia closed their short-film division ending The Stooges' long run at the studio. Besser declined an offer to make personal appearances with Larry and Moe in order to care for his wife who had suffered a heart attack.
