Scott Blumenthal, MD, is a Spine Surgeon with the Texas Back Institute and the first and only surgeon in the United States to devote his practice solely to the research and application of artificial disc replacement.
Dr. Scott Blumenthal was the first Orthopedic Spine Surgeon in the US to perform an Artificial Disc Replacement (ADR) surgery. This life changing surgery has now helped over 1,400 Texas Back Institute patients.
Blumenthal maintains his practice in Plano, TX where he specializes in spine surgery. He played a key leadership role in the clinical trial of the first Charité in the United States as well as performing the first total disc replacement (TDR) procedure in the United States.
Our world-class arthroplasty surgeons – led by Drs. Scott Blumenthal, Richard Guyer, Jack Zigler, and Jessica Shellock – have together performed more than 3,000 disc replacement procedures with 14 different types of devices at Texas Back Institute.
As part of a FDA-regulated trial, Dr. Blumenthal performed the first total disc replacement (TDR) procedure in the United States with this device, at Texas Back Institute, in March 2000.
