    • The cosmological argument. The cosmological argument is fairly straightforward. A modern version of it reads: Whatever begins to exist must have a cause for its existence.
    • The problem of evil. The problem of evil is the most famous argument against the existence of an all-powerful and loving god. It’s also old. For example, it provides the central theme of the Book of Job in the Abrahamic traditions.
    • The teleological argument. Also known as “the argument from design,” the teleological argument claims the world’s complexity proves a designer exists. The argument is, again, rather straightforward
    • Russell’s teapot. One of the more whimsical arguments against the existence of any gods was put forward by Bertrand Russell. And like any member of the British aristocracy in good standing, the third Earl Russell invoked tea in his argument.

    • “I say, no one can disprove God exists.” There are two things wrong here. First, it is not clear that this is true. It might actually be possible to prove that God does not exist.
    • “For 2500 years, The Bible had it right and science had it wrong.” Josh’s argument to this conclusion is that, while scientists thought that the universe had always existed (they accepted The Steady State theory which says that the universe has an infinite past), the Bible maintained that it had a beginning.
    • God Is Why There Is Something, Rather Than Nothing. To make this argument, Josh says “In the real world, we never see things jumping into existence out of nothingness, but atheists want to make one small exception to this rule: namely, the universe and everything in it.”
    • God Does Not Need an Explanation Because He Is Eternal. Josh presents this argument in reply to a student who quotes Dawkins: “[I]n his book, The God Delusion , Richard Dawkins says that if you tell me God created the universe then I have the right to ask you who created God.”
