4 min read. “Young Winston” is pretty much the movie we’d expect from Winston Churchill’s own book about his early life. It is dignified, occasionally exciting, filled with lots of walk-ons so eminent British actors can play eminent British statesmen, and more or less faithful to the facts.
It is about the early life of the future British Prime Minister Winston Churchill. Simon Ward and Robert Shaw give good performances. The screenplay is a little slow in places.

Although a dead ringer for the young Winston, Simon Ward didn’t take off as a star either, leaving Anne Bancroft and Robert Shaw in a sidebar drama that will mostly be remembered for an STD.
