May 6, 2021 · Lack of track record and SOM alumni in powerful positions across the business world. Yale SOM only started its MBA program in 1999, so the first MBA class would be 2001, and I imagine the first handful of class years had very small class sizes.
Apr 9, 2024 · The Financial Times has ranked Yale SOM 15th globally and 10th among U.S. schools in its annual ranking of 100 full-time global MBA programs. This ranking is derived from 21 criteria and based on alumni career progression, school and program diversity, idea generation and societal impact measures.
The program seemed fine and has a ton of advantages from their integration to the whole university and its focus on social enterprise. All in all it is a very good program and you’ll get the Yale branding (although people in the space know that Yale SOM is not as “good” as Yale undergrad.
To people who do not keep up with MBA Rankings, Yale SOM is considered to be in the tier with other M7 schools for being most prestigious (maybe even more recognized than non HSW schools). To those in the know (i.e. companies that hire MBAs), it is still known to be a great school, just not an M7.
I’m an MBA student at Yale SOM who found this sub helpful during the application process and wanted to give back. But before I begin, a caveat - If you are a reasonably smart and well-adjusted person, you will be happy at any program. Which T-15 business school you attend doesn’t really matter unless you want a VC/PE job.
