Ultraman (ウルトラマン, Urutoraman)[6] is a superhero who debuted in the pilot episode to his 1966 TV series of the same name, entitled "Ultraman". He is the first tokusatsu hero launched by the Ultra Series and by extension, Tsuburaya Productions.
The Ultraman series pioneered the use of various monster costumes, known as "kaiju" in Japan, before other series like Kamen Rider and Himitsu Sentai Gorenger adopted similar approaches. The principal kaiju roles were played by renowned monster suit actor Haruo Nakajima, who originally portrayed Godzilla.
