But Tin Man is definitely its own film and a totally different story -- though ultimately it offers a similar message about the value of family. The original, though a timeless classic, may seem a bit too sugary to some people these days; this dark, modern version is an exciting and interesting update (though, at six hours, it sometimes drags).

This isn't so much a suggestion for a YMS but more for anyone looking for a fairly unique film with 270 minutes to kill. Tin Men is a 1987 American comedy film written and directed by Barry Levinson, produced by Mark Johnson, and starring Richard Dreyfuss, Danny DeVito, and Barbara Hershey. [1] It is the second of Levinson's tetralogy of films set in his hometown of Baltimore , Maryland , during the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s, along with Diner (1982), Avalon (1990), and Liberty Heights (1999).
Sep 7, 2007 · CVS: Originally we sold the idea of “Tin Man” I believe it was about 3-1/2 years ago. Pitched kind of along the idea about a cop in “Oz” and it evolved into more of what it is now. We kept the title in “Tin Man”; the “Tin Man” is still the main character but its evolved more into a reinvention of the entire “Oz” legend.
