There is some (free) street parking in front of the Molson brewery and the Armouries, just off the Burrard Bridge. But most of the side streets off Granville Island are metered (strictly enforced - by the City of Vancouver).
During the summer season (May 1 – September 30), there is no bus parking on Granville Island before 6pm, only 15 minute drop off and pick up at the outdoor lot on Cartwright Street beside Performance Works.
We wanted to park all day and walk, spending a few hours on Granville Island and the rest of the day in downtown, gastown, etc. I hope this post will help others who plan to do something similar. Here's what we did, and it worked very well. Pay-parking on G.I. is $7.50 for 3 hours or $12 all day.
If you’re driving there, be aware that parking is very limited and you may need to park just outside of Granville Island and walk in on busier days. By bus you can take the #50 to Anderson St and West 2nd Ave and look for the large Granville Island sign after exiting the bus.
I sometimes head down Cartwright St all the way to the parking lots in front of the Granville Island Hotel. They are often the last to fill up in the morning. From there it is a 5 min walk to the Public Market building. Explore the Island at your own speed as you work your way back to your car.
Sep 19, 2008 · If you try getting there on Granville Street, the logical thought process, you will probably go too far. You need to come around by West 2nd Avenue, or Lamey's Mill Road from the east, to Anderson Street the island is under Granville Street Bridge.
Sep 14, 2024 · One can also drive to the island. Although, it might be hard to get a parking spot during weekends. There are buses to False Creek from Downtown Vancouver for people who prefer to use public transportation. It’s just a 10-minute walk from False Creek until the iconic Granville Island sign on the bridge welcomes you to this picturesque spot.
