Technically, yes, timeline-wise it's before, but it doesn't lead or reference into another story, nor does another story reference it in any way. I think I did mention that there are a few other timelines out there that are made strictly chronologically as to when the events in the book take place.
Horus Heresy Series SLIM Interactive Timeline Chart. This is based off my other, full chart found at this reddit post. There was a little discussion about what would be a recommended read order that wasn't as long and intense, but still hitting the major plot points of the Horus Heresy.
Basically, except for the obvious timeline Horus Heresy versus the rest of the books (Horus Heresy being technically Warhammer 30k), there is no real order between series. Of course, each of the series has a chronological order (which is not always the order suggested by the numbering of the books - see the HH for instance).
Sep 20, 2024 · After killing Sanguinius, Horus is slain in the final battle with the Emperor. The Traitor Legion's retreat, effectively securing Loyalist victory in the Horus Heresy. However, Malcador the Sigillite is dead and the Emperor is now permanently interred upon the Golden Throne.
