Nov 22, 2023 · Toadstool Geologic Park and campground is part of the Nebraska National Forests and Parks system. Located in the NW corner of Nebraska amidst the Oglala National Grasslands, this obscure little park represents another installment of badlands in this part of the country.
There is a small campground (no water available) at Toadstool Geologic Park that makes a good launching point to explore the area. A $3 per vehicle day use fee is charged from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
Camping is available and there are two toilets. The Bison Trail to Hudson-Meng Bison Kill is a 3-mile hike. The route crosses Whitehead Creek, which forms a ravine splitting the plain between the geologic park and the kill bed interpretive center.
Toadstool Campground to Hudson Meng is 3 miles one way. A five mile loop begins at the campground and proceeds on the graveled section of the interpretive trail for a short distance before heading north through the badlands and grasslands on the Great Plains Trail.

With its striking rock formations and remote location, it’s a great place for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle and enjoy some peace and quiet.
The little campground has a few permanent picnic tables with covers and camping pads, a bathroom, but no park rangers or staff. Entrance to the trails is free. You come for the rocks, and there are many!
There is a small parking area for day-users and there are 5 camping spots, each with a picnic table that is under cover of a canopy, a grill and fire-ring. One large spot fit our 35’ Class A just fine.
