The main draw to the show is the characters, they are all so interesting to watch and just really fun to see evolve over the course of the show. I couldn't recommend the show more, I love it. James Gandolfini is amazing in the show.

Yes, it's great. Top-notch acting, compelling storylines, a great character building series, and a pretty fantastical word to the Jersey mafia culture. But "Greatest show of all" is very subjective. So judge for yourself... give it a go and be patient with it. It will grow on you.
Sopranos is excellent, don't get me wrong, but it is nowhere near leaps and bounds better than everything else. I'd argue Breaking Bad is weaker than Sopranos, but I've also seen it more. Just finished my first watch of Sopranos not long ago.
