Sep 19, 2014 · Such is the stuff of “The Maze Runner,” which hews pretty closely to the YA-novel formula that’s reliably produced so many hugely successful film adaptations in recent years. And, indeed, director Wes Ball ’s film is based on the best seller by James Dashner .
The first movie is relatively close to the book, aside from a couple of minor details. The scorch trials and death cure movies however are really quite different from the books. From character deaths to story lines etc. I read the books before the films and I was put off by the huge changes, but the films are good if you don't mind changes.
