May 11, 2021 · After I came across a review saying to “just make it past the first book” in The Dark Tower because “the payoff was worth it,” I decided to see if the third time would be the charm. I'd made my first two attempts on the Kindle, so I opted for a hard copy to see if it helped.
Jake stumbles upon a key in a vacant lot with a rose growing in it, and this key is the way for him to get back into Mid-World. He goes into the Dark Tower equivalent of the house in It, and gets rescued by Eddie, who has whittled a key on the other side to bring him through a door.
The only story spoiled by the Dark Tower is SALEM’S LOT, so if you only read one of these side reads, make it that one. Other books like IT, INSOMNIA, and THE STAND are improved by being read with the Dark Tower books though, because they are influenced by the mythos from the books.

Mar 12, 2023 · The best: The introduction of Eddie Dean. Eddie Dean is introduced in the second Dark Tower novel, The Drawing of the Three, and in quite a colourful way. I love how he’s in the middle of smuggling cocaine into New York, and the ingenius way Roland uses the door to help him get through customs.
Over thirty years in the writing, it is a vast, sprawling tale of one man's quest, some may say obsession, and the story is excellent, the characters that populate it amongst that special type that remain with the reader forever.
