  2. Swiss Army Man is a really amazing movie with severally dark undertones. It manages to be genuinely and not just nonstop fart humor like you would expect, though it does have plenty of that. The movie is ultimately about life, loneliness, suicide, what it means to be a person all wrapped up in a strange story about a suicidal man and a corpus.

  3. Jun 24, 2016 · The film is elastic, transmogrifying from a psychological drama into a literally excremental comedy and then a hard-edged survival picture, occasionally embracing the cosmic and turning into an emo hipster answer to “2001: A Space Odyssey.”.

  4. It's a film where the stranded actor Paul Dano finds a very dead Daniel Radcliff and uses his flatulence to ride him, literally like a jetski across the ocean in an attempts to be rescued. Up front, this is a movie definitively worth watching specifically with a group of silly, amicable homies.

  5. The richest wellspring of surprise is Daniel Radcliffe ’s performance as Hank’s corpse-companion Manny, combining as it does inspired flesh-and-blood physical comedy – drooping limbs and dead-eyed facial paralysis – with special-effects-enhanced superpowers that seemingly bring the story into the realm of fantasy.

Swiss Army Man may be the wackiest, most delightful film to be released in 2016 so far. Since its premiere at Sundance Film Festival, media outlets have been trying to figure out the appeal of directors Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert's movie about a farting corpse. At first glance, it may seem like a movie you’d want to watch by yourself -- what with the negative stigma of gas in our culture -- but Swiss Army Man goes way deeper than any fart movie before it. It’s dark.

The film begins with Hank (Paul Dano) alone on an island, seconds before he’s about to hang himself. Just before kicking the bucket beneath him, he spots a body washed ashore. Enter Manny (Daniel Radcliffe). When he realizes the only thing Manny’s going to offer up is his farts, Hank tries to hang himself again. That is until he realizes he just might be able to flee the island, riding Manny like a speedboat, his gas leading the way. It’s funny when you see it, and pretty unnerving when you actually think about it. Hank’s options are farts or death. But as the movie flows along, it becomes clear that the duo is more than just two bodies trying to find their way home. Hank and Manny, in an odd way, are kind of a modern day Dante and Virgil.

It sounds bizarre and I wanted to debunk it the minute the thought came to mind, but as the movie progresses, it’s difficult not to see the journey of one person who has veered off course and needs assistance in finding the light again. Whether or not the island is a metaphor for his mind, Hank is alone to the point where he is ready to end his life. But before being able to accomplish his task, a mysterious body appears out of nowhere and slowly but surely guides him home.

Swiss Army Man is a must see. Who knew a movie about a farting corpse could have such depth. Dano and Radcliffe’s performances are an absolute delight and the two highlight each others' capabilities.

  6. Paul Dano plays a borderline suicidal man who befriends a farting corpse that washed up from the sea as played by Daniel Radcliffe. It's an adventurous, witty and hilarious film yet it is filled with discreet and very deep lessons about society and norms.

  7. Jun 24, 2016 · There are a few positives in Swiss Army Man. Paul Dano and Daniel Radcliffe are both spectacular. Plus, whenever it remains focused on examining what makes Hank depressed and run away to this island (well, not really an island), the film is largely quite successful.
