But I read Starship Troopers and found it very good - very different and much more gritty and realistic. I can understand why people are annoyed at the differences but I think it's a good idea to view the stories as inspiration for the movies instead of the movies as a bad imitation.

1 and 5 are the best (in my opinion). The other ones just look cheap, in a bad way. I want to see 4, but Casper Van Dien didn’t voice Rico in that one. At least in 5 we get both him and Dizzy back. I heard the actress for Carmen was supposed to come back as well, but something fell through.
