I’m racking my brain trying to think of an objectively bad thing about it. I think for the most part it depends on what your preferences are. I’ll try and list a few things about it. Academics: I studied Persian and social anthropology and both courses are top notch.
On some accounts, it is ranked very well overall, like in the Guardian ranking where it is only trailing Oxbridge [1]. On the same ranking, it is #1 in Politics, #2 in Philosophy and #1 in Physics. Other specialised rankings seem to confirm this, as it is ranked third in the most relevant philosophy ranking [2].
As a St Andrews student and M20 IB grad myself I have quite a lot of experience with this! Unfortunately since St A is a competitive uni, you have pretty much no chance if you don’t meet the minimum grade requirements.
If you've researched the uni, you should know that it is stereotyped for being having rich posh prep kids, its a rather small elite uni that has a big international (see: rich) presence and above average intake of prep school kids.
Mar 25, 2024 · William & Mary is of course a Virginia state university, but it has a relatively high OOS/international percentage, and in fact a lot of the Virginia kids specifically come from the Northern Virginia/DC area, and as such are a relatively cosmopolitan group.
The 2021 Times Good University Guide has ranked the University of St Andrews as the best university in the UK, largely due to its outstanding rates of student satisfaction. It’s particularly well-regarded for Theology, Divinity and Religious Studies.
