It really does not. The charm of the first Space Jam is not easily replicated. There are plenty of goofy pro sports movies with a player as the lead and they are all terrible. Except Space Jam, which is terrible, but in a funny way. Rather than just boring like New Legacy.
You can like bad movies, no body cares. Now, if you think that people dislike a movie you like just because a bandwagon, then you will always be at odds with the rest of the world. The first Space James was released just 2 years after Pulp Fiction, so while the movie was in development, it was still a thing.
