Feb 9, 2018 · I saw Shane by Jack Schaefer on my brother’s bookshelf. And I decided to take it to remember him. Published in 1949, this book is a western classic read in schools. However, I had never heard of it before. The story is narrated by a young boy, Robert MacPherson Starrett, affectionately known as Bob.

Shane is a remarkable story about a man that wants to deal with his own personal remorse and live a life like Joe does with Marion and their son, Joey. He has a connection with all three but in different ways. Shane helps Joe protect his farm against a man that wants to make the land free range.

Instead, Shane is a man of action. His feelings are apparent in how hard he works for the family and the fact that he is their protector. He does not complain once throughout the entire book, even after he is injured or shot.
Apr 9, 2023 · It’s a book called Shane written by Jack Schaefer back in 1949. Most people might say, “Hey, that’s not a romance, that’s a western.” But this book is about a very powerful love triangle, and yes, it’s true, it is a western and the hero and the heroine don’t end up together at the end.
The plot of Shane follows a familiar western narrative: the clash between cattlemen and homesteaders, inevitably leading to a dramatic showdown, has become a staple of American folklore.
Joe Starrett hires Shane as a hand on his farm, and Shane puts aside his handsome Western clothes and buys dungarees. He then helps the homesteaders to avoid intimidation by Fletcher and his men, who try to get them to abandon their farms.
