The Romanian royal family (Romanian: Familia regală a României) constitutes the Romanian subbranch of the Swabian branch of the House of Hohenzollern (also known as the House of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen), and was the ruling dynasty of the Kingdom of Romania, a constitutional monarchy in Central-Eastern Europe.
Marie (born Princess Marie Alexandra Victoria of Edinburgh; 29 October 1875 – 18 July 1938) [note 1] was the last queen of Romania as the wife of King Ferdinand I. Marie was born into the British royal family. Her parents were Prince Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh (later Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha), and Grand Duchess Maria Alexandrovna of Russia.
The royal descendants of Queen Victoria (24 May 1819 – 22 January 1901; r. 1837–1901 ) and of King Christian IX (8 April 1818 – 29 January 1906; r. 1863–1906 ), monarchs of the United Kingdom and Denmark , respectively, have become members of multiple European royal families .
