In RIVER OF FUNDAMENT, spirits are depicted as crossing a large river of shit. If their souls are strong enough to conquer it, they will be reborn in the next life. John Buffalo Mailer, the son of American novelist Norman Mailer, appears in the film and takes this journey down the River of shit in honor of his father.
