  4. I think the issue with Ring 2 is that it's an original story, not based on any of the novels, while the other films in the series are based on the novels (at least in part). Also, keep in mind that Rasen is more of an adaptation of the first novel's sequel than it is a sequel to the first movie, which gives it a different feel.
